Nope, you don't need a license to do taxes. And you don't have to put your license number anywhere.
You do have to put your SSN or PTIN (if you have one) and EIN (if you're self employed and have one) at the bottom of the returns you prepare and sign as preparer. If you don't already have a PTIN, I would recommend getting one ASAP so you won't have to put your SSN on all the returns you prepare.
To get a PTIN, you either need to sign up for e-services http://www.irs.gov/taxpros/article/0,,id=109646,00.html
or send in the paper form http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/fw7p.pdf
