I know some people who are horrible in writing.  I mean horrible.  But yet, they pass the CPA exam.  Shouldn't it be a requirement to have, at least, decent written communication skills in order to be a CPA?  I understand the written part is only 10% of AUD, REG, and FAR.  But still, when a candidate's writing is horrible, then s/he should not be able to pass.  This will force them to be better writers/communicators, which is an essential skill for all business people.

I agree, and the fact that they are eliminating the written communication from FAR, REG, and AUD in 2011 is a mistake to me.  I'd better take advantage of the easy points now while I can..

I disagree.  The written communication is graded by actual CPAs who grade the section differently.  By eliminating written communication you will eliminate the chance of failing the exam based on someones opinion about writing.

REG - 76 (expired)
FAR - 74 02/09 76 05/09

BEC - 78 05/09
AUD - 73 three times retake in 01/10

I'm sure there's a rubric they follow to grade the communications section. I doubt it's just someone's opinion.

It's not someone's opinion in most cases if your writing is clear and well organized. It's very easy to see. Nor is it someone's opinion if you use correct grammar, punctuation, spelling, etc.
