Yes, Big 4 experience + CPA is what got me this 3-5 years Financial Analyst position at a top company.

Of course me getting a job at the Big 4, at this point is almost impossible, especially since I just want to use them for experience.  Maybe it's still possible somehow.  Anyway, would you say that the information you learn in financial accounting and on the CPA exam is much more useful for your job than when you were working in public?

Not sure what you are asking but financial accounting is definitely the area you want to excel most at.

Well, yeah, that's pretty much what I was asking.  I just want a little insight into what the job is like since I think I have more aptitude in financial accounting than anything else.

It can vary a lot.  The financial analyst role is a hybrid term for corporate accounting roles + forecasting/budgeting and internal reporting.  It really depends on much and the type of responsibility you are given.  That's why a strong financial accounting base is essential.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this as a
career path?  I like the idea of working with financial statements and
actual accounting information rather than some of the audit and tax
garbage in public accounting.  Is the CPA sufficient to be a financial
analyst or do you have to get a CFA designation to make any impact
in this field?

I would recommend the CMA exam; the content is specific for financial
analyst, budget prep, risk management, Controller type positions and
would complement your knowdge of financial accounting perfectly.
Check out the exam content specifics this should give you a good
snap shot of the focus of the CMA program.
