So I failed REG for the second time and I just got my BEC score which I also failed. So needless to say Im extrememly frustrated and tired because I cant seem to pass. I currently use Becker; can anyone suggest a crash course that I can use for Regualtion and Business that was really helpful?

tinamarie,

I used Becker the first time I took Reg and failed. I failed not because of Becker but because I started slacking few weeks into studying and that was one of the main reasons I failed. When I studied for BEC before I had to put those books down and start studying for Reg after realizing that my NTS expired on Jan 1st I used Becker as well. I bought the Yaeger Cram for Reg and I can honestly say that I am a lot more confident using Yaeger. For BEC I had no clue whatsoever what Becker was teaching me and I broke down and bought the Yaeger homestudy. I like the way Yaeger teaches because they go over the questions with you and its almost like being in a classroom setting. I do better with that method of teaching. So it is all making sense to me now. I plan on sticking with Yaeger for FAR and AUD. Maybe you need to change your study habits. After reading different people's posts that had been succesful at passing the exam I was able to work out a study schedule that seems to be working. I watch the Becker lecture, do the homework questions, reread the highlighted material, watch the Cram and then redo questions. Its seems to stick the second time around when I watch the Cram video.

I looked into the pricing for supplemental study material with other programs and realistically I just dont have the extra money to do it. I need to approach the studying for Reg and Bec differently this time around, but I'm just not too sure on what to change. I've had no success with my current method of studying so any suggestions to change it up would be appreciated. I know a lot of people watch the lectures but I have a hard time learning by listening to someone speak. I need to do the questions- thats how I learn the best but I want to understand the material not know the answer to the questions cause I did them so many times.

Hey Tinamarie,

I'm sorry to hear about your frustrations. I'm not sure how you scored, but I was close to passing. I felt the same way you feel. I just didn't know if I had it in me to put the right amount of energy into studying for the third time. So, I completely changed my approach for my 3rd try on Reg and BEC.

I actually stopped working the Becker MCQs for REG. However, I did review the Becker practice simulations for all the chapters at least everyday for the two weeks prior to my exam. I went back and reviewed Becker chapters but not in detail as before. I supplemented Becker chapters 1-4 with the Wiley book. I reviewed the answers to the Wiley MCQs, however, I didn't attempt to answer the questions. Actually, I never looked at the questions and went straight to the answers. I focused on the entity taxation topics and the examples in the Wiley text. Also, I would often review the AICPA release questions with the Becker explainations for 2005-2009. Two days prior to my exam, I took the Becker practice final exams. This worked for me. I think not working on the MCQs, supplementing with Wiley and focusing on understanding entity taxation was key to getting me over the hump. I was able to refocus because I wasn't studying the same Becker materials all over again. I was more engaged in my review because Wiley presented new information.

For BEC, I just focused on two chapters. I was already getting consistent scores in the passing range for IT and Economics. I reviewed chapter 1 everyday for 2 weeks. And I studied and practiced MCQs for financial management for 2 weeks. I basically gambled with chapter 5, as any problems requiring calculating an answer, I just chose the answer randomly. I really forced myself to memorize everything in those two chapters.

It's really hard having to go over the same Becker materials. So I think this may be an approach might work for you.
