It took about 3 months to get my FL application processed.  Start studying for BEC now, take FAR on April 1, and then take BEC on May 1.

It doesn't surprise me. Those people are pathetic. If I
worked the way they work, I'd be fired. I have a feeling
they are all incompetent, from the Chairman of the Board
to the lowliest clerk.

It took over 3 months for them to process my application
to take the exam back in late 2008. And then, when it was
finally approved, no one bothered to tell me!

Now that I passed the exam, I'm stuck in the same waiting
game. They aren't moving on my initial license
application, even though all they have to verify are the
EXACT SAME THINGS they verified when I applied to take
the exam in the first place! They should be fired, every
last one of them. We pay the exam fee coming, and we pay
the initial app fee going, yet we get ZERO service from
them. This is supposed to be one of their core functions!

I'm just sick of the pointless waiting. I actually think
they do this on purpose. Is there anyone above them I can
complain to, or do they operate with zero accountability?
Wouldn't surprise me.

The Florida Board of Accountancy received my application to sit for the CPA exam on October 26, 2009.  On December 2, the reviewer told me he was working on applications dated September 18.  Today (1/4/10), he told me he was working on applications dated September 30!  He told me it would be over 4 weeks before he got to mine!  What can I do?  I am currently studying with Becker on a schedule that will have me sitting for FAR in the middle of February.  This could push me into April!  Very frustrated.

I'm not sure what the problem is. It took them 3 1/2 weeks to approve my exam application. Then again, it could be because I was already in the Florida system from getting my real estate and mortgage broker's license. I guess it shaves off time for them because it removes the need for a background check. For the real estate exam, I had to be fingerprinted and checked by the FBI.

I have also worked for the State of Florida before and things do move slow at times. Stuff goes right into the inbox.

If you have ever had to deal with your state board over any kind of issue, it will make you the biggest opponent of anything that could potentially be run by the government.

I didn't know any better and I started my Becker courses around the same time I sent the application in, thinking that it would only take them a couple of months to approve me (and this was back when you had to be approved before you could sit for the exam).  It ended up taking her a little over 4 months to approve my application, and by then the courses were over and a complete waste of my Saturdays.

But I don't know if emailing her and sending nastygrams to the people who hold your professional life in their hands is exactly a smart strategy.  It might cause them to move your application back down to the bottom of the pile.

My advice is don't email, because they're never going to respond.  If you call Ms. Hayes and don't get her, don't even bother leaving a message, because she's never going to return your call.  You just have to call and hope you get lucky and she answers the phone.
