Dear Vdesi,

Thanks for your reply. I applied to New Hampshire, but I heard that getting CPA designation is difficult there. I am planning to apply for Illinois also. But as I heard that Illinios is stopping issuing certificates (before license) from 2010?

Also pls let us know as and when u get evaluation results from Illinois.

GeorgeJo,
Illinois will stop issuing certificates from June 2010 and if you can put in your papers before that, you should be good.
I will let you all know as soon as I hear anything from IL Board of Examiners. Probably not before first week of March at the earliest.

The IL CPA law states:

"The Department of Financial and Professional Regulation-Division of Professional Regulation (Division) shall license as certified public accountants individuals who have had at least one year of full-time experience, or its equivalent, providing any type of service or advice involving the use of accounting, attest, management advisory, financial advisory, tax or consulting skills that may be gained through employment in government, industry, academia, or public practice."

The option to register expires 6-30. This requires no experience and allows you to use the CPA designation legally. You may perform everything except attest functions as a registered CPA.

The option to license requires experience. After 6-30-10, IL becomes a 1 tier state.

bob5000,
Thanks for your clarification and pointing out that IL will grant us permit to practice even though we did not work "under the Supervision" of a CPA.

Dear Vdesi,

Thanks for your previous posts.

Could you tell me, does this mean that IL give Certificate cum License, if we just complete one year of accounting experience in any category incl. general accounting and need not be under the supervison of a CPA?
