Let's discuss the merits of obtaining an MBA vs. an MA.  I know an MBA gives the appearance of a more rounded potential candidate.  But on the other hand, an MA is 20 credits less and would allow me to focus on the area of study that want, and not get bogged down with all the other general business courses that I took in undergrad.

MBA - Breadth
MA - Depth

Whichever path you go depends on what you want to do.  MBA gives a huge management utility to any career you wish to pursue.

From my experience, MBA>MA.  I've been told the MA is only good for getting the 150 credits met.  Otherwise it is not all that great.

My research and due diligence lead me to the MBA.

From what I've heard, the combination of a CPA and an MBA is quite potent in the business world. Tho in my case, I need a break from 17 straight years of school :D

Quant, where are you getting your MBA?  What was your undergrad?

The MBA programs I've looked at are willing to waive about 15 semester hours if you enter with an undergraduate business major.  This makes the time required to complete an MBA about the same as an MA for an undergraduate business alumnus.

Look into whatever MBA programs interest you to see if they offer such waivers also.  Keep in mind that an undergraduate business degree is not needed for entrance to most MBA programs.  Many managers in non-finance industries worked their way up from the technical line, so they won't necessarily have any formal business education and may well be using the MBA as a way to learn about the business side of their industry as they climb the corporate ladder.
