For me, what led me to a MAcc was that I know I want to be in accounting
and I don't want to take statistics ever again. To get my MBA, I'd need to
take statistics and I hated that course. It was also cheaper for me to go this
route.
However, my MAcc is also from one of the 179 schools in the world that are
AACSB accredited for their accounting program, so I feel like its still valuable
- especially in the field I want to be in.
I have also been pandering the old MBA vs. Macc decision. I actually like school (which is funny since I hated every minute of high school) so would not mind doing the extra year required for an MBA. With the economy the way it is and the way it will likely be in the future (bad), I think its important to have a versitile degree so that if you can't find a job in accounting you can try another industry. With a Macc, I don't really see getting a job in another field. Again, I want to work in accounting, but everyone should have a Plan B.
