While my interview was for NYC metro, I actually interviewed with someone from the NJ office. Not sure why, but it could have been because my resume was originally forwarded from the NJ recruited. Like I said, I didn’t wind up getting it, but I was not nearly as polished as I should have been.
Questions were behavioral, like I said. “Why Big 4?” “Why audit?” “Why is your position in a team usually?”
The reason I say that I was unpolished is because I had taken a lot of notes, so that I would be more prepared and less nervous. Unfortunately I wound up reading and picking, “let me give you this example”. I think it came through.
While I still need to wait (7-10 days- it’s agony!) to hear back from my KPMG phone interview, I believe I did much better. I was still very nervous, but I just wanted to be myself and see how that went. This one was actually with the hiring manager. The same types of questions were asked, but with a few different twists, “How did you handle a difficult team situation?” She actually asked about different items on my resume. I work and go to school full-time, and she asked a bunch of questions about how I’ve handled the stress and how my job responsibilities have changed.
My advice is to know yourself, think of a bunch of examples of when you were in group projects. I think the best example I had was an unfavorable group project that got favorable results. Think about all the times you’ve been creative and worked well in teams and how you deal with situations. Let your positivity shine through and you’ll do great!
I’m really surprised on the lack of phone interview information out there. It’s an unfamiliar world for me and it seems like very few people are going through it. I’ll let you know what my result is. Please share your experience!
Best of luck!
