You do not have to live in MA to be licensed as a CPA, but you do have to certify there. However keep in mind that the CPA is a state, not federal designation. Accordingly, you could only hold yourself out as a CPA in MA and not in, say, NJ or NY without meeting reciprocity requirements.

You don't want to get the license though until you have some kind of decent full time job. Otherwise, you have to pay fees and pay for CPE. You don't want to be doing that while unemployed or underemployed.

I am in that kind of situation , passed exams - do not have license - how much time do I have to get my license - before my exam credit expires - do the exam credits expire?

It depends on your state board if the credits expire-ask them.  Thank goodness in my state, they do not.

You need a Master's or 30 extra Bus credits in both states...the work experience is 1 year. I am thinking of moving to NJ.

I live in NJ.  Why would you want to move to NJ?  There is a reason why there are more people moving out of NJ than in.  Our taxes are insane, especially if your in north Jersey.  And there are no jobs in NJ.  That's why there is tons of traffic to get into Manhattan every morning.

My taxes would actually be lower in NJ because I don't make any money.
