They wouldn't hesitate in a second to fire you with no warning if they wanted to cut payroll and would have no care about how you would survive after....giving them 2 weeks notice while not necessary is a nice gesture on your part and they should be happy with that...

I've seen places actually accept the two weeks and then for the next week or so hate on the employee until they leave. That would be a terrible position to be in. I would tell them I would work the two weeks if they really needed it, but if not I'd rather part ways immediately.
