I am in a situation where I am graduating with my BBA in accounting with a 3.0 GPA and a 3.1 accounting GPA. I have 150 credit hours due to losing some credits while transferring from Chicago. I can qualify to take the exam in Illinois where I plan on going back. My question is, should I just take the CPA exam or go for my masters to get a higher GPA in graduate school ( I know I could do 3.6+). I would appreciate everybody's input on this matter. For the record, my goal is to get into the Big 4 to start.

do both. take the cpa before or during the masters program. the compeition is getting crazy and 3.0 gpas will not get you a B4 job unless u got major connections. Some firms are making 3.5 GPA the minimum. Howver, I find this very hypocritical since they hired a lot of people with 3.0-3.2 gpas just a couple of years ago.

So you have a 3.0 but you know you could get a 3.6+ in harder classes?

Yes and not really "harder classes" most of the upper level accounting courses I have taken were combined with graduate students. I had a C In Intermediate 1,Tax 1,and tax 2 and It took me until this past summer to get more serious about what I want to do. I have an A in Intermediate 2, Auditing, and Advanced Financial. I am currently taking Cost and Govt. So yes I know that I can get a 3.6 In similar courses especially since I will not be doing Tax classes.
