But is there even any recruiting going on at campuses rigt now during this economy?  Aren't there 6 + applicants for each availbale position?

They still recruit, regardless.  Some may not hire at all, but they still conduct interviews to spot possible talent.  On my campus, it seems like where firms were hiring anywhere from 2-10 people for full-time positions, they only have been hiring 0-3 the past two years.  Should pick back up some this year, if not then next.

Get your MACC, not because it's of any use but because Big 4 recruits heavily from schools. It's really difficult to get your foot in the door after you've out of school, unless you have some connections.

It's also difficult to get into the Big 4 unless you start out as an intern for them.  Accordng to data I found, 70-90% of new hires at the Big 4 were originally interns.  So please do not assume that getting a Macc is a ticket to the Big 4.

1) Funny you should say that, considering I got my offer to one of the Big 4 without having been an intern before last fall from campus recruiting.
2) I never said, if you get your MAcc, you'll get an offer. Bottomline, if you want to get into Big 4, especially at new associate level, your best bet is from on campus recruiting.
3) Thanks for calling me out, glad you just assumed I didn't know what I was talking about.

Jobs are out there, I will tell you this first hand.

They are limited and very competitive. Still hard to get your foot in the door. Lets keep it real. We are not all legends.

The jobs are probably out there, but you might have to use other methods instead of campus recruiting.

for example, at my job we have postings available internally, that have not yet gone public, or waiting for possibly someone internal to give a referral to someone from outside.

Limited maybe because I live near cities or something. Def not good in my area

My family and I are going crazy networking, finally had an interview last week and now I have to wait for the committee to decide my fate. It was lucky that a spot opened up and not because they created a darn job. My friend in same area gets interviews but they are so crappy or never hears back.
