Hi!

I have jsut found out about this forum two weeks ago and I am so grateful for all the discussions on this forum. I have a decision to make and will highly appreciate it if you can help me out.

I got my NTS yesterday, which is only 5 days after my initial application was mailed. I thought it would take around 7 weeks to get my NTS and thus, I applied and paid for all 4 sections. I had hoped that I would have until around November to take the exams. However, My NTS says that I have to take all four sections before 09/02/2010. Part of me wants to spread out the 4 sections thru Nov (2 before and 2 after Sep) so that I would have more time to prepare. The other part of me wants to take all of them by 09/02/10 because I do not want to lose money by postponding two sections until Oct and Nov (I have to re-apply and forfeit the fees I previously paid).

Somehow I find it impossible for me to pass all four sections before Sep. I just started to prepare for the exam today (03/03/10). I am an average student (3.5 GPA) and graduated in May 2007. I forgot almost everything I learned in college. I work full time and have a 10-yr-old daughter and a 2-yr-old baby to take care of. I think can only devote 16 hours to study each week.

Could you please help me decide which option to pick (take all 4 before Sep vs. 2 before and 2 after Sep plus losing money).

Thank you in advance for your help!

Normally before you pay for your exams, they warn you to only pay for sections you will be ready to take within the next 6 months.

Taking all parts within a 6 month period is doable if you have nothing much else going on. I've been out of school for over 4 years so 6 months won't cut it for me but if you're a new graduate, that will probably work to your benefit.

Considering the responsibilities you have, I would just move the dates and eat the loss. At least you'll have some peace of mind. Good luck!

I'm not saying you can't do it, but I needed way more than 16 hours each week.  Of course, each person is different and absorbs the material faster or slower.  You definitely should start studying immediately.  Looks like you have about a month or so to study for each section.  It took me about 3 months just to prepare for FAR.  I have to mention that I take my time studying so you may not need nearly as much time.

cflas08 and CPA24,

Thank you very much for your advice. Now that I have got your opinion, I think I will take only 2 parts before 9/2/10. I also think I will need 6 months to prepare for FAR and REG and 3 months for BEC and REG. If the exam had not been going to be changed in 2011, I would have spreaded them within 12 months. I have just decided to take them before 2011 after I found out about the exam changes (thanks to this forum). I wish I had visited this forum sooner so that I could have learned earlier and prepared earlier.

Thank you so much again and I really appreciate all of your help!

Hi!
It's me again. I am thinking of taking 3 parts before 9/2/10 in order to
minimize the loss for re-applying. If I do that, my tentative exam
schedule will be as follows:
REG 5/15/10 (I have been studying for a week)
BEC 7/3/10
AUD 8/31/10
FAR 11/30/10

My only concern is about the disadvantage of taking AUD before FAR.
I have to do that because if I take FAR by 8/31/10 and take AUD last,
I will not have much time for FAR. I wish I had prepared for FAR so
that I would be able to take FAR first.
Could you please kindly give me some advice? Should I stick with the
above schedule or should I change to the below and eat more loss?
REG 5/15/10
BEC 7/3/10
FAR 10/1/10
AUD 11/30/10

Would I have trouble if I take AUD before FAR?

Thank you so much in advance!

Rogedj

I think you will be fine if you take AUD before FAR.  It may be helpful to some but is NOT a hard and fast rule that you have to take FAR first.  I took AUD before FAR and passed it the first time.  Just put in the time and don't worry about other people's supposed "rules".
