Hi,
So basically, I failed to score an offer with the Big 4 (this was a while ago...I just found this forum), and I'm really wondering what the hell I'm going to do now. I feel like such a failure, and from what I hear, all my career aspirations are virtually gone in one fell swoop. I'm pretty sure that someday, I want to be a controller, but I also potentially have an interest in being a tax consultant and advising companies/individuals on how to minimize taxes/manage their finance/do their books, but is all of this basically gone now that I won't be able to get big 4 experience?
The good news is that my GPA is pretty good, and I've had internships throughout my college career, but I just missed the Big 4/GT/BDO somehow, and now I'm totally lost about what I should do to still reach my goals. Any ideas would be appreciated.
thanks

Welcome to the club. Most people get rejected by the Big 4. Besides I don't see hwo working for them is so great. The pay is mediocre and you work tons of hours.

I'm not entirely sure why the allure of the Big 4.
Me, personally, I'd be happy with a regional firm. Not too big that you get
lost in the shuffle with the high turnover, but just big enough that I get
enough exposure to a variety of engagements.

Work for a regionally known firm and then snag a private job in that region. The only thing you've missed out on is the potential opportunity to be the CFO of a F500, big whoop, you weren't gonna kiss that much ass anyway.

It isn't great. Working for the big4 is all about marketing. The experience is worth its weight in gold. Everyone wants big4 experience. Its like going to grad school or having residency as a doctor. You put two years in and then move on to better opportunities. Thats all it is. After you've talked to alot of accounting folk who have worked in the big4 you'll see that trend. "well, I worked at kpmg for 3 years then got a job working for the government." etc etc.
