CPA exam is pretty important, you definitely have the advantage if you have it passed in the interview. You get kicked out at senior if you don't pass now. It's actually the hardest part of accounting, harder than being a senior at big 4. Many people in big 4 couldn't pass.

Wow, so these people have 4.0 or really high GPA's from top schools, work in the prestigious big 4 and work all the way to senior and don't pass the cpa?  You would think that the experience from big four, especially audit or tax, you should be able to pass because of the work experience knowledge.  I guess the cpa is EXTREMELY hard, and before I thought it was just a hard exam.  jeepers man.

It's hard but doable.  I don't think the obstacle for those people not passing is necessarily the difficulty level of the exam, it's the time commitment.  When you're working 60+ hour weeks, it gets pretty hard to find a few hours/day to study for an exam.

Yes, it's definitely the time commitment. Also, Allegro, there's very little overlap between real world accounting and the CPA Exam. The CPA Exam is much more comprehensive and detailed than 99% of real world accounting.

Ok well then it makes sense then.  The big four guys work 60+ hours and must be completely exhausted and probably can't put full effort into the exam.  You get home and probably want to go to sleep/rest.  I would have thought that at least the audit and tax sections of the cpa exam would be directly related to their job functions.  Auditor, Tax accountant, etc.
