Why bother with CFA /CPA or MBA? It is not what you have behind your name, what you have studied. But it is all about who you know? How good looking you are? What type of work attitude you have? And if you are born under a lucky star? These will get you far in your career and salary packages. If you are ugly, even with a CPA, CFA, BA, MBA, MSc, PhD will not help you. If you have poor work attitude (i.e. lazy, show-off, no emotional intelligence, going to work late, a 9-5 politician and gossiper), words will go around and you will not go anywhere. Finally, its all about WHO you know. If you go to night-spot and mix with drunks, all you get are people who party, yes they have a life, but goaless in life. So go out and mix with high society people. |

Probably the worst advice I have ever heard... I'm sure "ugly" people dominate the business world throughout and it DOES have to do with their education. For example, I highly doubt any company would hire someone with a com degree over somone with a CPA for a controller position even if they were best friends with the com guy.
In my experience, when it comes to the business world people don't take "chances" with non-experienced friends in important positions. True knowing people is important in this world, but a strong educational backround is needed first before going into any field.

I know a person who is both a CPA and CFA. These are his words.
"I studied about 300 hours for each level of the CFA. I probably studied a total of 300 hours for the CPA exam."

I don't think the CFA is worth the time and headache of getting. It takes 6 years to earn, Cost thousands in testing fees, requires a ridiculous amount of time to study for, plus when you actually get done you're still on the hook for membership dues... and then on top off things off it's just a "certification" it doesn't allow you to do anything anyone else couldn't already otherwise do on their own... it's not a series 7, 63 or a CPA.

I will agree that having a poor work attitude won't take you anywhere. I will also agree that it is all about WHO you know. But a BA, MSc, CPA, MBA will help you a lot when beginning your career. As far as appearance is concerned, I strongly disagree that being ugly is a minus. You can still be ugly and be very clean, well dressed etc. and make up for the appearance. What I mean is that as long as you are taking care of yourself and you don't look sloppy at work, then you are ok. Many pretty people show up like they are going to a party or to the supermarket...

I just took CFA level 3 and I have passed Audit and FAR (CPA) and will be taking REG and BEC in Aug...
if you are talking about relative difficutly, then CFA is much much harder then CPA.
But looking at the current economic conditions I would say CPA is better then CFA. CFA or no CFA now a days every company is firing and no body is hiring in the finance industry. If you complete your cpa you will definetly get a decent job because it covers a much broader sector.
Thats just my opinion and can be wrong
