She explained it pretty early on in the FARE HomeStudy. Apparently "A" is the most often-selected answer so the examiners like to trick you, sometimes by making up things that don't even exist. For instance, module 18c MCQ #10 in the 2009 edition answer A seems like the obvious answer but it doesn't even exist. That is why she suggests starting with "D" and only answering "A" if you are sure. After a while, you will find yourself especially on exam day saying "answer A only if you are sure. Am I sure?" It works, for sure. And, she says that if you are to the point of you just have to guess something, choose anything except A.
