mocpa05, Missouri accepts experience in private industry:

Quote:

Experience shall be verified by a licensee and shall include any type of service or advice involving the use of accounting, attest, review, compilation, management advisory, financial advisory, tax or consulting skills including governmental accounting, budgeting or auditing. Experience may include employment in industry, government, academia or public practice.

http://pr.mo.gov/boards/accountancy/initial_individual_appli cation.pdf

Experience must be verified by a licensed CPA.  And yes, Missouri does require the ethics exam.

NT2005, I don't see anything about repeat units in the CA Licensing handbook.  My guess is that they would be more particular about repeated accounting or business courses.

Hi Rams,

Congrats in your new job.

I have few doubts, please clarify me. I have completed all 4 parts from Delaware board. I have 4 years degree from India, equivalent to a Bachelor degree in US. I am not working currently, looking for a job.

  1. Ethics exam – how do I register for the exam and from where do I get the materials?
  2. Internship – How many years of internship do I need? As far as I know it is 2 yrs in my case, if it is from a CPA firm or public accounting firm. If it is from a private firm, it is 4 yrs. please correct me if I am wrong. http://www.nasba.org/NASBAfiles.nsf/3BC653050D2D8FA086256C1B 00792FF5/$file/CPAPractReq2002.PDF  In this link, what does qualifying experience mean? Is there any other site where I can find detailed explanation for the same?
  3. Do i have to do internship in Delaware only? can i do it from any other state?

Thanks for any input.

1 - buy the AICPA professional ethics course (in CD or book - whatever format you like) at www.cpa2biz.com or www.aicpa.org.  You take the exam after completing the course.

2 - For a Delaware certificate, you do not need any experience.  For a DE license, the required experience must be under the supervision of a CPA.  See http://www.delcode.state.de.us/title24/c001/index.htm#P 132_19322 for the detail on the experience requirement.

3 - You can get your qualifying experience anywhere.

Delaware Board of Accountancy is at http://professionallicensing.state.de.us/boards/accounta ncy/ - should be lots of useful info for you there.

So is it looked down upon if you decide you want to work on the private side of a company and do not want to work in public accounting, even though you passed all 4 parts of the exam? I guess I'm confused because you work so hard passing the exam, and if your state requires at least a year of public accounting and you don't fulfill that requirement and never get licensed, doesn't it seem like you worked really hard for a title you can't achieve?
