Hi Dcgrrrl,

Thanks for the quick reply.

I had a few other questions,

1. Would it be a wise decision to wait till I pass all the 4 sections and then transfer my grades to any of these States? - (This is what I was planning to do since I have 2 more exams on my way).

2. Would I have to fulfill the educational requirements of the State to which I transfer my credit all over again?

3. Is there any time limit for taking the ethics exam? Does it fall under the 18 month period?

4. Can I transfer my credits to say IL and then take up the ethics exam?

I would really appreciate your help.
Thanks and Regards.

1 - that's what I did, so it makes sense to me :-)
2 - it really depends on the state.  This wasn't an issue for me, since I currently meet the VA requirements.
3 - not that I know of.
4 - I think you can take the ethics exam anytime after you pass the 4 parts of the CPA exam.  Not all states require the AICPA ethics exam.  I had to put the date I completed the ethics exam in my license application, so I did the exam before I applied.

Hi everyone,

This thread is really very informative. Thank you for all the information. This is probably the best forum there is for CPA's.

I passed all 4 parts of the exam under the NJ state board and just like cpaprep & dcgrrrl I am planning to transfer my credits to NC as that is where I will be residing.

I just have a few questions:-

1) Is the Ethics exam as big a torture as the CPA exam parts?

2) I will be starting work in public accounting in Jan and according to NC I think I need 1 year of public accounting experience but my worry is this:- Is there any expiration on the Ethics exam results if I pass it within the next 2-3 months? (Since I'll complete a year of work expereince only in Jan 2007 and that is when I will be ready to apply for certification)

3) I called the staff here in NC and they told me I should transfer my credits at the time of applying for the certificate. Should I wait for a year to transfer credits? I'm just worried that what if they change some requirements and then I'll won't be eligible...

I don't know how much sense my questions make...but I hope I can get some help with this. I would have never imagined that after passing the parts there would be so much more confusion.

Hi hope2pass,

1) Not anywhere close. Its an open book exam that you complete online at home. You do need 90%. I think its just for AICPA/your state board's records that you were informed of the liability that comes with "CPA" at the end of your name so if you do anything out of their code, they can "through the book at you"... :)

2) Ethics exam has nothing to do with your experience requirements. The only thing that relates them is that they are both requirements to obtain your license. After the ethics exam, you just need to comply with CE requirements which vary from state to state.

3) I would transfer my credits after passing all four parts. That way they will start to monitor your experience and can advise you exactly where you need to spend your hours. Although, if they change their requirements, you probably will be grandfathered as you passed your exam before the change but then again, is it worth it?

Good luck with the process... :)

Hey Ahmadca,

Thanks for the information. All this just seems a bit confusing but I guess I'll figure something out as and when I'm ready to start working on it. Until now I was just worried about passing the parts and now I'm worrying about the Ethics exam and transfering my credits. One would think that it should get easier after passing the parts but then I guess it never does.

Right now I'm just trying to enjoy the holidays and celebrate the fact that I have actually passed all 4 parts of the exam!!!!!!!
