OK, I'm confused by the link to the Colorado CPA certification requirements...  If you have a BA plus 30 hours and a Master's degree does that satify the condition completely?  Or do you need 45 hours of accounting in addition to those requirements?  Anyone?

Folks,

I have cleared the CPA papers and ethics as a CO candidate. Was not really planning to apply for a license but found out last week that my employer need the license to file my PERM application for GC.

So, obviously getting the damn certificate became my no 1 priority! I am planning to apply under Rule 2.5 'education in lieu of experience' since i am a Bcom, CA & CS. After reading the rules and talking to the Board here's what i know:

Foreign education has to be evaluated by a independent evaluation agency. Each state Board has certain agencies preapproved. For CO, there are a few..u need to choose one, its $100+ to get it evaluated and they determing if ure meet the eligibility requirements of the state Board where u want to apply.

Has anyone from CO applied for licensure under rule 2.5? Was a Bcom+ CA or CS considered sufficient to satisy the requirement?

Also, is anyone aware of any time limit after passing the CPA exams that one has to be licensed? I passed in Dec04..do the scores expire after any specific time.

Pls contact me at nsanjay1@yahoo.com and lets help each other with the last step!

Sanjay

hi,

I've read in one of the threads of this forum that Rule 2.5 requires atleast 3 credit hours in US GAAS. So if you have that, then you won't have nay problem. However you have never taken that course then you may try other states which recognize Indian experience or even private accounting experience.

Good Luck!!

several of you contacted me by mail. Heres an update:

I spoke to the CO board a few times...a helpful guy called Alan Cantrell. He suggested that the 'education in lieu of experience' would help to get licensed, considering my background.

Since our education is outside US, it needs to be evaluated by a credential evaluator who is a member of NACES group (www.naces.org). Went thru this list and Alan recommended Facs(facsusa.com) and Joseph Siley (jsilny.com) as having good experience with evaluating CA.

I spoke to both, was more impressed with Facs. Evaluation cost for CO is $100. Sent my Bcom,CA, CS - inter, final and m'ship certs along with the sylabbus. Was not comfortable sending originals by mail (good luck getting those replaced if lost!) and they agreed for notarised copies. My employer has an inhouse notary so got copies notarised and send them out.

Within 10 days, got their report that my BCom,CA/CS were sufficient to meet Rule 2.5 of CO.  I dont know if my CS made any difference or if only a Bcom & CA is sufficient. Tried asking the evaluator but they give their standard reply that each case is specific and they can't comment until their receive the evaluation docs (and the chq of course)!

Sent my licensure application along with the report to Alan at the CO board and he confirmed that the rule was satisfied. Now i am just waiting for the CO Board to meet and approve my licensure application.

Hope this helps guys!

Sanjayna

Thanks for the great post!!! Congrats on qualifying through Rule 2.5.

Your post answers some important issues many of us have in mind. I just finished the last part of CPA. I am a B Sc Maths with Accounts as anxillary subject. Then CA. I am a member of ICAI. I have worked for E&Y. I am enrolled agent with IRS. I am going to send notarised copies of all these to FACS. I will call them before and talk to them too. I will see if my case will fly!

I may not qualify because i am not B Com. I just joined a small public accounting firm in Michigan. So, in two years i will have the needed public accounting hours. But I want to see if i can qualify through Rule 2.5.

I have some questions, i will appreciate it if you can give me your thoughts -

Do I need to send my CA article training letter from the Indian CA under whom i underwnet the article training? Will it help? Also is there anyone in particular in FACS to whom we can talk?

Again, thanks for sharing.
