Just spoke with the Colorado State Board of Accountancy to get clarification of Section 2.5 “Education in Lieu of Experience “.
It is confusing because 2.5.A suggests that you need a Bachelors degree plus 30 hours OR a Master’s OR a Higher Degree.
Fortunately, this gentleman was able to clarify this requirement for me. He said one could qualify if they have a Bachelor's degree and at least 30 additional hours (the 150 hour requirement) which INCLUDED having the total of 45 semester hours in accounting (6 of which in audit) AND 36 semester hours of the courses listed as business administration courses.
Just because one is holding or aspires to hold an M.B.A. or a Master’s in whatever, does NOT qualify them for the “Education in Lieu of Experience” unless they ALSO have the 45 and 36 hours mentioned above.
Remember these hours are in total. This doesn’t mean that your Master’s program has to earn you 45 additional hours beyond those that qualified you to sit for the exam.
For example, if you had the minimal requirement of 27 semester hours in accounting you would have to complete an additional 18 semester hours in accounting to meet 2.5.B.
You must satisfy all requirements in 2.5.
Hope this helps.
