I'd love to make a post like this but something that encompasses all 4 sections as opposed to just FAR or AUD. The topic doesn't really fit well in any of these forums and I don't want to cross post it in BEC/AUD/FAR/REG forums. Any advice on where to put it?

As far as the post, you couldn't be more right. I have a friend taking these tests immediately after I do and he's trying to study 7 days a week for 2-4 hours a day for over two months. He won't listen to me when I tell him to knock that down to 4 days a week and quit focusing on the details. One day he will listen......

I think a lot of the Becker mnemonics are bad.  I don't use the majority of them (although I have used more in FAR).  They focus too much on memorizing absurd, often unrelated words (some not even real words) that often have no correlation to the actual topic.

I find its better to just read through the stuff and make sure you actually have an understand of everything, rather than just trying to memorize your way through the exam.

I believe that studying for the CPA exam (or any exam for that matter) is not a "one size fits all approach". What works for one person may not work for the next person. I think it doesn't matter on your approach if in the end you have the same results..i.e. passing.

This forum is about being able to freely ask any questions that you may not understand. I find it very demeaning to put down somone over a question they asked. Your point is NOT more valid with the question in it. It could have easily been left out of the post and carried the same weight.

In the end if you have to put someone else down to make yourself look/feel better...then that says a lot about your character (CPA or not).

I wish everyone well with their CPA endeavors, regardless of their approach.

Man, i'm not gonna defend my position anymore.  Just quit being sensitive about it.  I perused these forums during my studies.  And now that i'm done, i want to give back what little i can to help people pass.  I may be blunt, but i'm just calling it as it is.  The best thing a person can do is cut through all the BS be honest with themselves.  I have 2 kids both less than 2 year old and my studies took time away from them.  You don't have to listen to what i have to say, but if i can help a person that can't seem to get out of their CPA rut and spend more time doing other stuff and still pass, then fawk it, why do you care what i have to say?  Helping people pass the exams >>>>>> than worrying about someone's feelings.

I partially agree with you Andy, however, having a few things memorized helped me breeze through a handful of questions.  It was nice to get the correct answer while only using 10 seconds.

I will say though, that developing a test taking strategy is the most important thing possible.  I too employed the "if I dont know it, pick something and move on approach."  Some people waste 5-8 minutes and still get questions wrong.
