Some feedback on Liberty:

I've completed 7 of the 10 courses required in the Liberty MSA
program so far. I'm not sure if this is true of most MSA programs but at
Liberty the program isn"t so much about learning accounting (debits
credits etc). The program focuses on research, theory and writing.

It's been a good experience. I recommend the program based on cost,
8 week classes, online format, good instructors. The classes are
challenging as there are exams, research papers, projects, and weekly
writing assingments with APA citing using peer reviewed articles to
back up your statements. I'm completing the program to satisfy the
CPA 150 hr requirement. Good luck,

That is one of the reasons why I am looking at LU's MSA program because the pricing is not bad to meet the accounting requirements to sit for the CPA exam, and also have the option of looking for a good MBA program in the future.

Out of curiosity, what's your take on taking two courses at the same time while working full time?  I was looking at the list of courses and have the following tentative schedule.

Spring 2011
01/17/11 - 03/11/11 ACCT 301 Intermediate Accounting I
03/21/11 - 05/11/11  ACCT 302 Intermediate Accounting II
03/21/11 - 05/11/11  ACCT 311 Cost Accounting

Summer 2011
05/16/11 - 07/08/11  ACCT 404 Auditing
05/16/11 - 07/08/11  ACCT 401 Taxation
06/27/11 - 08/19/11  BUSI 601 Accounting for Decision Making
06/27/11 - 08/19/11  ACCT 511 Advanced Business Law for Accountants

Fall 2011
08/23/11 - 10/15/11  ACCT 521 Advanced Cost Accounting
08/23/11 - 10/15/11  ACCT 531 Accounting Information Systems
10/25/11 - 12/17/11  ACCT 622 Advanced Auditing
10/25/11 - 12/17/11  ACCT 632 Advanced Financial Accounting Theory

Spring 2012
01/17/12 - 03/11/12  ACCT 612 Tax Research and Jurisprudence
03/21/12 - 05/13/12  ACCT 642 Accounting Ethics

Hi Joelomas

Two classes at once is very doable, I"ve done it twice. Just be
prepared to have no down time for a 8 week period. Like you I"m a
little older than most at 39 yrs old, so getting the classes behind us is
a priority.

Beyond the 10 classes required of in the Liberty MSA program, the
MBA with a concentration in accounting would require an additional 5
courses. I" m thinking about it.

On a side note......I'm taking the FAR exam tomorrow ...kinda freaked
out with anxiety right now. Be well

Thank you for the info Vince and good luck with your exam.  FYI, at Liberty, you are not allowed to pursue an MBA if you get an MS in Accounting. No idea why they have this requirement because I asked if it is possible to get a dual MBA/MS in Accounting and the advisor mentioned only one graduate degree in same program is allowed.

I was just going to add I think an MSAcc is a better choice for you. An
MBA online is relatively worthless. You don't have to be a top 20 program,
but online MBAs are considered much less than even a local small
program.

An MBA is more about strategy, finance, marketing, and integrating all of
the dimensions of business cohesively. What I tell my students is that you
don't want to get your MBA - you want to be an MBA. I expect certain
things of an MBA, like the ability to coherently present a compelling
recommendation based on a thorough analysis of the situation. I don't
think I had more than 3-4 presentations in my MSAT; I had at least one a
week in my MBA program. Also MBA programs are all about team
interaction and dynamics - doing that online is difficult.

Good luck with your program!
