I pursued a MSA and depending on the type of position available, sometimes wish I would have gone for the MBA. The difference is really in what you want to do with it. Many higher level management positions, such as CFO, require a MBA because it gives broad exposure to strategic issues. The MSA is focused, and therefore more valuable if you will be working strictly in accounting management, such as in a Controller capacity. Also, for teaching purposes, you get more accounting exposure. If you are going to pursue CPA, you also want to have some tax exposure, which I think you are more likely to get in an accounting program versus an MBA program.
Good luck deciding!

"Vince" or "Joelomas" hope you read this -- would like to correspond with you off the board as well, if possible.
I am a Liberty undergrad. Will be earning my B.S. in Business Mgmt. in July. Will have taken the two introductory Acct. courses + Intermediate I by the time of graduation.
Have been accepted to 5 MSA / MS Taxation programs for the fall, including Liberty's, none are AACSB except for Texas A+M University (Commerce campus) Would need to take Intermediate II, Auditing, Cost, Taxation as pre-reqs. + the 10 courses for the Liberty program. 14 courses total -- plan on completing over 2 academic years.
My goals: Never want to work in management, Never want to work for big 4. Went back to school in 2008, wanting to run my own practice -- law or accounting. Still waiting on acceptance from law school, but 95% sure I want to do accounting. (2 years MSA vs. 4 years law, way more indebtedness for law school). 31 years old. Would also like to teach accounting.
Experience: None in the accounting field, some bookkeeping. 10+ years running own business in field of computer consulting (similar to "Geek Squad" in nature).
L.U. MSAcc will satisfy CPA requirements for my state. Can take sections of Exam with Bachelor's, upon passage of all four you earn a "certificate", which doesn't mean much except that you passed all sections. Need 150 credits plus 2 years of work experience. Work experience is defined as the equivalent of 20 hours per week for 2 years; can be paid or unpaid, under the supervision of a CPA (can be in a small firm, government agency, etc.)
Your thoughts and opinions please? I would be willing to provide you with my LU email if you would like to continue this conversation there.
Thank you.

Based on your situation, Liberty is a great program. I choose Liberty because I only pay $250 per unit for being an Army veteran and it fits my needs. I am currently working on ACCT404, and had to change my anticipated completion date from Dec 2011 to May 12 because there are a few courses that I need to stick with one course per eight weeks instead of two. I am also debating if I should first pursue the Cert. Internal Auditor prior to CPA.

Joelomas, how are your classes going? I start taking two classes at once at
Liberty in two weeks, and I'm a little nervous about how much work it'll be.
I'm not working now, so I figured that now is the time to try.
Also, I'm going to be going for my MBA because I need 21 (or 24...can't
remember off the top of my head) hours of business courses, of which I have
3 currently. I figured that as long as I needed so many business hours, that I
may as well get my MBA.
Getting my MBA w/ accounting concentration at Liberty will leave me 6
hours short of Accounting classes to get my license, but getting my MAcc at
Liberty will leave me 9 or 12 hours short of business classes.

Classes are going good. I should be done with auditing by next week, and decided to switch back to two classes per 8-week session. Taking ACCT 511 Advanced Business Law for Accountants and ACCT 632 Advanced Financial Accounting Theory starting next week. I had to take Auditing for the B-session for Spring 2011 because I had started a new job three weeks ago and was unsure if I would be able to maintain 2 classes each session. Now that I have been with my new job for three weeks now, I think I can stick it out and finish my classes by March 2012. I might also start studying for the CPA exam while doing these two courses with CPAexcel and see if I can maintain this schedule.
