I am very passionate about doing CPA and would really appreciate if some one could let me know about my eligibility status for getting admission in CPA and what necessary study I would need to do. I heard that Delaware state is going to change the eligibility criteria from 2012 summers. Would I need to do complete M.com (2 years post graduation) in order to become eligible to get admission in CPA? I also heard that University of Clarion offers a one year online course and post completion of the course one is eligible to sit for CPA exams.

I know I have asked a lot of questions and I am sorry if this annoys any one. I am 30 years of age and want to make a serious career in accounting field. As of now I am working in Finance & Accounting domain from last 5+ years and also have experience of working in chartered accountant firms (auditing, accounting, tax works etc.) of 5 years.

I would really appreciate if you could help me on my queries. God bless you!!!

Thanks,

Barjit

Hi Barjit,

I also had Bcomm from India and pursuing CPA in California. On the basis of 10+2 & Bcomm evaluation, I was few credit units short in accounting.
For that I took 2 courses in community college (Financial Accounting & Bookeeping) and cover those units.
After that I was considered eligible and I could sit for exam. My suggestion would be you should submit your Bcomm transcripts to your state board of accountancy and then work accordingly.

Good Luck!
Navi.

Thanks,

Yes! I also did correspondence. That does not matter at all. I would suggest 1st check your own state then think of others. Frankly, I don't know if selecting state matter... I did not research that part. I just went with what my state eligibility criteria is.

Go on the website of your state's board of accountancy and check the eligibility.

Im also planning to attend community college (Mission or De anza) to earn those extra credits. Can you tell me if online courses offered in these college counts towards CPA eligibility?
If you also live in the Bay area ( since I do) ...can you please tell me your community college's exact name.
Thanks
