What were the researches like? Did they just ask you to pull stuff from the
codification?

A dummy question is typically a question in the exam for
psychometric analysis. They like to put experimental
questions in the exam that don't count towards your score
(dummy questions) to gather data and decide whether or not
to put it on future exams.
