I took the REG on 2/28 and I thought This test was the hardest.
Simulations definitely killed me. The simulation for Becker is way too easy
compare to the real exam.

Here's my tip for the REG:
-If you are using Becker, read the book in detail.
-Read the Circular 230 at least twice as others mentioned.

Good luck!

Hello, I agree that Becker sims were nothing like the test. Anyways, I am studying for FAR now and see that you got a really good score!! Honestly compared to my studying for REG, I feel like studying for FAR and the Becker HW quest. are way harder!! You mention that you thought REG was difficult, but so far I feel like its the opposite.:) Anyways, did you think Becker was right on for FAR? Was the level of difficulty of the HW and SIMS more like the real test?? I am using Becker 2011. Thanks for your input! Hopefully we passed REG!

Annam,

I took FAR in November of 2010 and passed with a score of 92 using Becker exclusively.  My advice is to have faith in the process.  There's a lot of stuff to cover, but if you set up a reasonalbe study plan and stick with it you'll get there in the least amount of pain and effort.  Good luck with your studies.  I'm sure you'll do well.

Ozzman,

Here is the link to AICPA CSO's for all CPA exams effective January 1, 2011:

http://www.aicpa.org/BecomeACPA/CPAExam/ExaminationContent/C ontentAndSkills/DownloadableDocuments/CSOs-SSOs-Final-Releas e-Version-effective-01-01-2011.pdf

Page 23 of 40 of the document begins the breakdown by percentage of the topics you are responsible to have covered.

"Ethics and professional responsibility" (for REG) accounts for 15-19% of the exam and Circular 230 is one among several topics covered in this area.

Hope this helps.

Thanks........

I have a question on all of you who said the SIMS are
ridiculously hard.

Is it hard because the SIM is on an un-touched (or hardly
touched) area in the review material?

Or is it because the depth of the task? (or the detail it
requires)

It's hard because most people aren't focusing on applying the concepts together. They focus on knowing things fact by fact.

jl0329,

I agree with UCFAccountant.  Given the volume of material to be covered, Becker (and other prep courses I'm sure) teach you in a very broad concept kind of way.  This is very effective for answering a wide range of MCQ's; however, I found that this level of knowledge didn't seem sufficient to answer the REG sims which required a more detailed application of the concepts.  In other words, I personally felt well armed for the MCQ's, but when it came down to the fine detail number crunching sims, little seemed straight forward.

The good news is that a lot of people seem to be feeling the same way.  I also have a suspicion that the one sim that really blew me out of the water may be a pre-test question.  And yes, I verified that there are pre-test sims in the new CBT-e format; its one of the reasons the AICPA changed to this format to begin with.
