i'm using yaeger and taking notes as i read but i'm pretty much rewriting everything in the module word for word.

i try to only write down things i don't know or feel are important but its all IT definitions that i'm not familiar with, so i feel like i should take notes on it

how is everyone else studying for the BEC IT section?

Nolifecpa, I'm sorry, but I had to laugh when I saw this. I did the exact
thing when I started studying for the CPA exams, with Becker's BEC
materials. I ended up with a summary of the book. Lol. After a while, I
realized I had wasted so much time because I came to know that the
best notes you make are those you make from answering questions.
So my advice would be this: skim through the book and make skimpy
notes on stuff you think are really, really important. Make notes on
formulae and main points. When you start answering questions, you
will fill in the blank spaces and understand the notes better. This is
what I do now. I hope that helps!

I basically did that too for my first exams: FAR and AUD, but I did that by making online note-cards that were basically verbatim from the books. I'm sure they helped a little bit, but I feel doing so was a huge waste of time.  More recently, I've channeled that time into doing the practice MC and sims again and again, and trying to get them through as many times as I can.  Additionally, reading the book in periodically.  I feel that doing the questions reinforces the material more than just mechanically copying all of the countless rules down.

hi nolifecpa,
When I took BEC I studied using Wiley. Now they separated the module into 5 sections the ones I paid close attention to were- Effect of IT on Internal control and Flowcharting (this helps with auditing more though). For other stuff I just kinda of memorized (aka read a couple times) because those seem like they would be worth less points. Good luck and I hope you pass.

thank you so much for the suggestions, i'm going to just write little notes here and there in the book and read the module over and over

i started writing my notes on MS word but seems pointless if i'm copying the whole book word for word
