I DON't believe that you have to spend 3+ mths studying for a section of the exam. I think it depends on the hours you put in and whether you feel ready. I studied 3 mths for FAR but it was my first section, inconsistent study habits and not many hours a week.

Only you know how many hours you need to feel comfortable going into an exam. If you can get those hours in within a short time period instead of dragging them out over months..THEN GO FOR IT! It's about the time..not how many months.
