OPINIONS NEEDED:

Background: Looking at the option of acquiring a MACC Online which will meet the Acct. Education Requirements to sit for the CPA Exam.  This will mean taking on approx. $30K worth of Student Loans.  Already have 10+ years of Finance/Acctg Experience, as well as an MBA.

Question: Would it be worth taking on the add'l debt to acquire the MACC to be able to sit for the CPA Exam, even though you may never meet the 1-Year Experience requirement of working under a CPA (I am usually the Lead)?

Thanks in advance.

I took community college classes on-line and in class, and would have taken all of them on-line if they were available at that time. Now they are. I paid a fraction of the amount you are planning to pay. I passed each CPA exam on the first attempt and was licensed in IL due to prior experience, but would have taken the CPA exam only for bragging rights if licensure was not available.  BTW, without a CPA review, your MACC will probably not be enough to pass any exam. Wiley books will do fine if you are motivated.

The College of Dupage in IL offers all requirements on-line, and only the two intermediate acct courses require proctored exams. Course costs are not especially high.

Yeah man just take classes at a CC. LSU Online has classes for like $400, significantly lower than the cost of a MAcc online just to meet the educational requirements. Quite honestly, a MAcc is only so you have access to campus recruiting with the Big 4 and other public accounting firms.

"Why do I want to become a CPA?"

Only looking to remove any barriers that were thrown up during a period of Unemployment.  Had the Experience, Education, but kept missing on good opportunities b/c many company's still feel they need CPA candidates.  Removing the Barrier is the primary reason, I'm already a CMA (Cert. in Managerial Acctg).

Thanks again for all the opinions.
