CMA or CPA is pretty good if you want to establish credibility. Also, the CMA requires only 2 years of normal accounting experience to call yourself a CMA.
CMA + CPA is possible waste of time. One set of initials adds credibility. Both sets or more won't help as much as you might think unless you want to teach. If you had enough credits to take the CPA exam now, I would say 'go for it.' If someone at the job interview later asks you why you have a thing for taking tests, just say you had the time, qualifications, and wanted to see if you could pass. This will make you sound like a normal person and less like a professional test taker.
I definitely would NOT spend $30,000 or take 10 more classes just for a set of nearly redundant initials after my name.
Yes, I know a lot of personnel interviewers have no idea of what a CMA is. Surprisingly, a lot of them have little idea of what a CPA is, too. Target your game for the accounting manager, not the personnel screener.
After I passed the CPA I thought about going for the CMA. I sat down and got over it.

also, Smart ... good question. When I first read it I thought it was a little lightweight. His answer brought out things I didn't expect to read and changed my opinion entirely. You gave me something to think about.
