If you are not from some top tier school, you will have a harder time to get in Big 4. Did you go to state school?

Yes, think SEC. I was competing against students from a
top school here in the Southeast...it's really strong. I
am also a 5th year graduating in December. I am not in
the Masters in Accounting program. I really didn't think
school mattered at the 2nd interview stage though. It's
seems like it's really about your personality. I could
be wrong though. I actually hope that I got rejected
because I was from a weaker school and wasn't part of the
Masters in Accounting program here. I also may have
shown interest in Finance, so this may have been
perceived negatively by them. As long as it wasn't my
personality and fit that was at fault, I am fine.

Of course school matters. I bet they have a disproportionate number of graduates from some private and brand name schools. The quota for your school was probably very low, maybe a couple of people.

Come on dude. Don't be a quitter.

If this really isn't what you want, ok. But it sounds like public accounting really is what you wanted and now it isn't because you got rejected.

Keep in mind all you need is one in. Switching between the Big 4 and top mid-tiers is really easy once you have a year of experience at any of them.
