Hi I graduated a year ago with a 2.9 GPA. I am planning on getting a 700 or higher on the GMAT before applying to Baruch, do you guys think that this is competitive enough? I also have a year of experience working in corporate accounting and am planning on passing all 4 sections of the CPA exam in January 2012.
Also for those of you who have attended Baruch and have been to the big 4 recruiting events, do the firms generally ask for your undergraduate GPA or would it be fine listing my graduate gpa (of whatever classes I've taken so far) and would this lower undergrad GPA hurt my chances with getting interviews?
Thanks in advance.

Just sent in my application for Baruch MAcc.
3.53 GPA, 3.81 Accounting GPA
660 GMAT
2 internships under my belt
For those that have gone/gotten in there, do you think I'll
have a decent chance?
Sorry, don't mean to hijack the thread.

Heh I went to Baruch (undergrad & grad) and to be honest, didn't think it was all that. Sure pretty much all of the large firms recruit from here but I always thought we were no where near the level of NYU.
One thing I can say about the student base is that they are extremely competitive. Most students have near full time jobs outside of school while simultaneously maintaining 3.5+ GPAs.
As a result you'll notice most students don't stick around after class to socialize, thus the social scene is practically non-existant.
The one big advantage of Baruch and the reason students go here is because of the extremely low tuition. I knew plenty of students that literally got paid to come here because of financial aid.
When it comes to recruiting, in order to compete. You have to have a job (preferably a relevant one) while also attending school full time. Because that is pretty much the norm for Baruch students.

Of course Baruch isn't close in NYU in stature but they still have one of the best accounting programs in the country. After receiving my GMAT scores I was going to apply to NYU Stern's part-time program but when I saw the tuition I said forget about it. While Stern is ranked highly throughout the nation, I couldn't take the risk of taking on excessive student loans, while another drawback was that they don't offer an MSA (you have to go the MBA route).
Ellipsis123, are you still in Baruch's grad program?
