Long story short - spent 9 years with Big 4 as a management consultant,
got my MBA and made it to Senior Manager. Left to have a family. Since
then I earned my MAcc and (hopefully) my CPA, and have been teaching
accounting & tax part-time for the past 4 years.
I'm thinking about going back to project management because the pay is
better. But I'd rather go back to big 4, this time in Audit. What are
starting salaries like for Audit with a CPA, MBA, MAcc and no audit
experience? I know I'd have to start off as a Staff Auditor likely, but figure
because I know the methodology and have managed large staff before, I'd
rise quickly. I'm in Hartford.
Also any tips for getting in to talk with a recruiter? Everyone I know at the
firm was in NY and nearly all have left. Those I know are out of other
offices.

Why wouldn't you want to go back to the advisory side? Entry level audit pays like $50K-$55K (give or take a thousand or two) depending on location and education. It's hardly enough compensation for someone with 9 years of Big 4 experience and a MBA...

Ah, this story again. Didn't like the answer you got on Going Concern?
Here's my 2 cents - it's impossible for you to get the job. Why? Because your career goals are completely nonsensical. Even if you really are this strange, good luck getting anyone else to believe it.
People usually choose a career because it has good pay, or challenging or interesting work, or responsibility, authority, or respectability, or good advancement opportunities, or a good lifestyle, you get the idea. Becoming an entry level staff auditor at the Big 4 with your background is not even remotely close to being the right decision for ANY OF THESE THINGS!

acaden - I didn't get an answer here, so I posted it there.
Gee, thanks for the encouragement. I choose this career because I do
want good pay, I had responsibility but had to travel 100% of the time and
I'm a mom now, and eventually I do want to move up either back in
academia or in industry. Having line accounting experience will help that.
Seriously, do you think I could be considered as an Internal Audit
department head without accounting experience?
I'd expect that once I'm in I'd rise rather quickly - after all, I've written
portions of their systems methodology, which was based on their audit
methodology, I've managed 15 or so directs, 50+ indirects, I've run multi-
million dollar projects, and I've presented to CEOs and BODs. I'm willing
to start at the bottom if that's what it takes.
db - thanks for the reasonable advice. I have some former colleagues
who are at other Big 4 in Advisory, and may consider that.

Starting salary for a staff auditor at one of the big 4's is about $51,500, give or take some bucks. So, I bet based on what you're used to, you'll be pissed.
