hello alphanso,

Try on-line course offered by community colleges around your area because they are cheap. However, the problem with this course is they are mostly non-core and requires you to have other core courses in order to obtain the non-core. Thus, that makes it more expensive.

The other thing for providing proof is, if your college professor can write you a letter of confirmation stating the topics in your course in india covered GAAS.

Would let you know more, if anything more comes across my mind.

Hi Bhagyesh,

Congratulations on getting license and I must say you are
doing great work in sharing your case and helping us
facing similar problems. I am also planning to apply for
license in Colorado Board. I am stucked at the following
points:

1) Can you please let me know are we supposed to get our
evaluation done again through the evaluation agency under
the clause "education in lieu of experience" or simply
send the application to colorado state board of
accountancy?

2) Completed Chartered Accountancy and MCom from India.
Not sure if i have to undergo audit course just as in
your case. While applying to colorado board for
admission to cpa course my evaluation says that study
included "at least three semester hours in auditing".

3) Do we require SSN to apply for license? Because i
stay in US on dependent visa and there is no option for
US resident not having SSN. (i have read somewhere at
cpanet forum that application without SSN is rejected).

I passed cpa exams last year but my visa status creates
the complex situations and was not able to apply for
license. Knowing that I have posed lot of queries I
would highly appreciate your all help..

Thanks in advance

hello sparrow,

My Response is below your each question.

1)     Can you please let me know are we supposed to get our
evaluation done again through the evaluation agency under
the clause "education in lieu of experience" or simply
send the application to colorado state board of
accountancy?

Need evaluation thru. the agency from the list that they have specified and other requirement is that a direct copy of your evaluation should be mailed to NASBA. Here is the link that will be able to answer all your questions and if not can call the customer service number and they will definitely help you with any concern. As per my experience they are really helpful and co-operative.

2)     Completed Chartered Accountancy and MCom from India.
Not sure if i have to undergo audit course just as in
your case. While applying to colorado board for
admission to cpa course my evaluation says that study
included "at least three semester hours in auditing".

Not sure about that, I think may be a professor letter stating covering of US GAAS will resolve the issue. They just want some kind of confirmation. I don’t think they cross check or make inquiry for the same. As in India we are following the international audit std. which includes more than what US GAAS covers, so any of your college professor or even a tutor can confirm that on a letterhead which will resolve the issue if arises.

3)      Do we require SSN to apply for license? Because i
stay in US on dependent visa and there is no option for
US resident not having SSN. (i have read somewhere at
cpanet forum that application without SSN is rejected).

Again not much sure about this as I have a SSN but the link sent out has some details & facts in relation with SSN. I have even seen some cases where candidate is in India and possessing CPA license from CO i.e. no SSN, not even visited USA for exams, so you should be good.

All the Best.
