Dokimcpa, while I did not take any exams at the 3rd Ave test center, I live and work in NYC and took my exams at the Penn Plaza center.

1) Yes, it is a safe area at night, one of the nicer parts of town.  It about a block away from Grand Central station, where there are always lots of people traveling in and out.

2) In my experience (although I took my exams only in the two Penn Plaza centers), yes, Prometric centers let you take the exam early if you arrive early.

3) There is a large public library branch at 455 Fifth Avenue, about 1/2 mile away (4 blocks west and about 1 block south) that will be open until 11 PM on your exam day:

It is a busy and happening part of town, with plenty of coffee shops as well if you prefer that type of setting.

Good luck on the 30th!

Thank you so much for the useful information!!  I have not been in NYC for a long time and forgot how it is.  Congratulation for passing the CPA exam!  I have 3 down and 1 more to go.  Hopefully, this is the last time I need to take.  Thanks and enjoy Thanksgiving!

Dokimcpa - thanks, and no problem.  Good luck on that last section!  Will you be spending any time in NYC after your exam, or will you be heading right back?  It gets lively and festive in the city at this time of year.
