In Nov 2009 I gave the auditing exam, I scheduled the exam in the last week. All the three MCQ test lets worked well but for both the simulations, calculator program stopped working, it did not initialize at all.

I worked the whole problems manually and it killed a lot of my time and I couldn't able to complete the second simulation. I wrote communication section and couldn't able to do anything else.

I reported this problem to Prometric and they said they will inform Nasba. I came back home and emailed the problem to candidate care.

I waited for 5 days as directed in the voice messages of Nasba's candidate care. I tried to fax my concern more than 6 times, to the fax number they provide us and each and every time the message reverted back saying the machine is busy.

I waited for hours trying to contact customer care and when I was connected to the related person all they do is to divert us to a candidate care representative, who never takes calls and all we can do is to keep a voice message.

Today I got worried too much and kind of frustrated, I called pro metric and inquired about my report and today after hours of discussion they raised a ticket. They never answered my question of what happened to my last report.

I called and emailed Nasba and after a long struggle of emails and phone calls, I am now given an option to retest or wait for result.

The candidate care representative gives me a call to inform me, that they are giving me an option to take a re test or wait for the score. Even before I can say thank you or anything else she hung up. she didn't have courtesy to ask me if I had any concerns?

I performed the MCQs well but as I said, first simulation was performed better than the second one, which I did nothing else than communication. As we don't know which simulation is going to be valued, I am in a dilemma whether to take the retest or wait for the result.

If I take a risk now, I can have the chance to pass but if I failed how that going to affect my career? Even if I opted for re-exam all I can do is to wait till January.

How and where does this failure really going to cost us?
Does this show up in our mark lists or certificates?
How this going to effect us psychologically?

Can I ask them to consider first simulation which I attempted well?
Does any body have experiences like this?

Please give me your advice and opinion...
Thank you.

cpa_stl,

I have not had computer problems during my many exams, but I have had an issue with a fire alarm going off during an exam with an evacuation of the building. The Prometric staff was awesome in calming everyone's fears about their exam and rebooting the tests. I was able to continue with no loss in time. (Failed it anyway)

I am not at all surprised that you have faced obstacles with the machine known as NASBA. I still do not understand why they are in existence to begin with. It is just another organization that bleeds money off the outrageous exam fees. I am sure that you will not be given any options to consider one simulation over another. In addition, this will have no affect on your CPA career as many have said before a CPA license is a CPA license. My main question is will you have the option to retest if you discover that you failed?

Bigocciput  :-D

Thanks for your feed back
It felt good after reading your advice. I just mailed Nasba that I won't accept the free retest offer.
Well They won't allow me a free retest if I waited for the score.

I will add my experience with Prometric here prior to
taking the REG today. When I rescheduled my AUD exam
earlier this month, paying 88+ as required, they
scheduled for a
"disabled person" exam so the testing location on my
receipt actually did not exist, although it was an
address listed. There were some Countries listed on the
receipt below the city of my address and the address of
the site that were not USA, on the confirmation email
receipt. I waited until 10 days prior to my exam to
follow up
with Prometric after I realized the error. 1st phone call
I make, they tell me its no big deal, my exam is still
scheduled, it just listed the wrong country.

3 hours later, I get a phone call from the person who
took my original rescheduling and she admits to me she
made a mistake, and asks if I can reschedule. I made a
suggestion to her that Prometric should have an internal
control that does not allow me to be scheduled for an
exam I do not qualify for. I kid you not, her response
was that she performed a "management override" and I
clarified that it was a "management override of internal
control", how appropriate this happens to the AUD exam I
reschedule. So she give me her 1st Suggestion of
possible rescheduling, June 1 or 2. I remind her this is
outside of the testing window, "oh yea" she exclaims.
Her next move was to suggest reschedule 6 days prior, the
exact same day I was taking REG, I told her yea right, I
cant do that. This mistake cost me big time. I paid a
lot of money (for me) to reschedule so that I could take
both exams in the same period, Prometric makes a blunder,
and I now have to wait until the next testing period, and
now I am cancelling my vacation next month in order to
make sure I retain the knowledge I was ready with. Do
these people know they are messing with people's lives?
The competence was that of someone getting minimum wage.
I guess that is what happens when a monopoly exists.
Quality really does not matter because I cant schedule
with another testing company. I did not even get a
refund of the 88, I would never have rescheduled if I
knew they could not hold the original date. Prometric
disgusts me and if I ever make a Million bucks, I swear I
will open up a testing center somehow someway that will
dig into their revenue, even if I take net operating
losses for years into the future. Scum.
