I NEED TIPS FOR STUDYING...I USED BECKER 2008 MATERIALS?...THIS SUCKS

I used Becker 2008 and passed with over 85.

I think you have to practice the homework questions. I spent 15 days and I did practice 60% HW questions. I even didn't study the chapter of non-profit organization that frequently showed up in my three sets MC. If I studied government and non-profit accounting, I would pass FARE with over 90. I thought I failed after my exam and I already have a plan for the second time.

I think that the government and non-profit accounting account for 15% and I will invest my time on it. Also I would study the derivatives that I am not familar with. To be honest, the other subjects, I am quite familar with and what I need is practicing and practicing.

Practicing is always the best and you will find some patterns from your practicing. This is my personal experience. I hope it is helpful for you.

Did you think the Becker questions were harder than the real exam?  I'm in my final review now and am going through the chapters over again and doing the HW for a 2nd-3rd time.

What were your thoughts on the simulations between Becker and the real exam?

Yes, it is harderthan real one. But isnt it good? You will feel your real exam is easy.

I only practiced HW Q once and only 60% of it. I didn't practice all Becker simulations. I only practiced one simulation for the reason of knowing the format they will show in the real exam. Actually my two simulations were so easy that I thought I failed. Dont worry! If you practice 2 to 3 times, you definitely will do better than I did. Fighting!!!

I used Becker as well and passed (it was even an older verision)!  I did the HW questions AND supplemental questions AND the final exams.  I also spent well over 200 hours preparing for the exam. On the final exams, I scored less than 60% on BOTH of them and still passed the real exam.  I thought Becker questions were a lot harder than the real exam.  On my testlet 2, I was thinking to myself, no they really couldn't be asking me this simple question...............

Govt. and NFT are actually my stronger areas (nope I do not work for the govt.) and I scored really high in those areas which helped me A LOT with my overall score because I didn't do so well in the presentation area which accounted for 27% or so.  If you combine both govt and NFT, that is approx. 25% of the test and that is truly how I passed!

Hope this helps!

I passed with a good score on FAR using Becker 2007 materials and the Gleim test prep CD. I thought the questions on the test were comparable to the questions on Becker, but the Gleim test prep questions were MUCH harder than both and I think they helped me prepare for this exam best. If I were to do it again, I would have spent most of my time on the Gleim questions rather than the Becker questions.

Becker lectures + Gleim MC CD = One killer combination

I just started studying FAR with the Becker self-study - just finishing F-1, so I am not an expert yet. For BEC and AUD I mostly used Gleim online. I am also six years out of school.

Having said that, so far my impression is that if you are scoring less than 80% on the homework then you are not retaining the material sufficiently.  Perhaps reviewing the material again after listening to a section of the lecture is necessary before you attempt the homework the first time.  I would make sure to review to the point where you will score at least 80% the first time you do the homework.  Also, I find it helpfull to read through the book before listening to the lecture.

This is my strategy.  I would be very concerned if I studied sections and consistantly scored 60% even if I re-did the homework and got a better score the second time around.  If I am wrong on this, hopefully someone will correct me as I might be wasting too much time studying. It took me about a week to get through the first of the nine lectures.

I would be interested to here more about other candidates strategies with Becker. It is surprising to hear about so many failing the exam using Becker.
