Big4Guru,

Your info is priceless. You have no idea how long I've spent trying to get
honest opinions from people (mainly school officials) who will only tell you
what you want to hear.

Thanks!

Big4Guru,

Thank you for your opinions. I want to know do big4 hire CPAs who have only 2 years public experiences in a small firm? What should I prepare?

spatel783,

Thank you for the kind words. That is exactly why I am
so motivated to share this information. I was
essentially in your same situation not that long ago.
There are SO many questions and SO much uncertainty in
that period of your life. It can seem like it takes a
miracle to make anything happen.

While I was with the Big 4 I saw first hand how some
people would make it and some people wouldn't. I saw
far too many qualified candidates just get lost in the
process, or make a mistake they could have easily
avoided.

Hearing that you feared that you couldn't get hired
because you went to Seton Hall affirms how much
incorrect information is out there. I want to make the
process easier and more successful for everyone.

Mind if I use your quote on my site?

I was really just looking for some reassurance. Being that I'm already in the
hole for $125,000 from law school and will probably add some more for the
Masters program, I am/was really worried about not being able to find a
decent job after finishing the accounting program.

I know you specialize in big 4, but do you think the market is okay for
smaller firms as well? It seems hard to find an entry level position with a
small firm.

I don't mind at all if you use any part of my response on your site.

The skill set is the same for the Big 4 and small firms.
With 2 years experience with a smaller firm you could
certainly make the jump to a Big 4. You would likely
come in as an "experienced hire."

As for preparation, the differences arise from some of
the regulation that impacts clients of the Big 4 that
may not be applicable to the clients you've worked with
in a smaller firm.

My advice would be to prepare for the issues that are
currently on the radar of the Big 4 (i.e. IFRS, fair
value accounting, SEC regulations). By gaining just a
general understanding of these topics you should be able
to bridge the gap between a small firm and Big 4 firm.

Good luck.
