Im working on the California ethics exam... I think the independence questions are extremely complicated. Especially when it refers to SEC vs. AICPA independence, or California vs. non-California rules... eek

Is there any simplification diagram or pamphlet published by the CA state board to make this easier to understand ?

It took me a long time to answer the first question. I do not know how I am going to complete the other 49 questions.

What happens if you do not pass the ehics exam in 3 try's? Do you get to try again. Is there a waiting period?

This exam is impossible.  Really.  The CPA Exam was cake compared to this... My first try I got a 70%, my second try I got 78%.   I have 12% points to make up!! I don't know how to find at least 6 questions that I feel are incorrect... I've already gone over them all 3+ times and the answers look good to me :\

I also have to agree that these questions are confusing at times.  They are trying too hard to trick you that the meaning of the "ethical" lesson gets lost.

Christ, you're joking! I don't know where or how to look for the answers, it's very difficult. Some you can use search and look for key phrases, but others you can't.

Did the suggestions after you got your 1st + 2nd tries help? They're supposed to give you page numbers of what to review. For each question I'm answering, I'm writing down page numbers of where I found it, or at least a hint of what I'm answering.

What happens if you still don't get above 90% your third try?

Ok, I passed on my 3rd try - got a 94%, so it IS possible to make up at least 12% points! They don't give you the numbers of the ones you got wrong, nor do they give you specific page numbers; just the sections or rules you need to review since the questions tied to those areas you got wrong.

If you don't pass on your 3rd attempt you can call the CalCPA customer service line (under Contact Us on their webpage) and request for 3 additional tries at no charge.  The lady did give me a hint in that the list of areas to work on after a failing test is in order of which were missed, so if you can match the question to the area you can slightly deduce which were right and which were wrong.
