You don't need to earn another degree to get the extra 30 credit hours needed to be CPA eligible.  Let me show you the quickest, easiest and cheapest way to accumulate another 30 credit hours.

Here's how it works:  The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) offers many online courses in emergency management.  The courses are free and one can be completed in 2-3 hours.  Here's the really neat part.  You can have those courses turned into college credit!  It's entirely possible to complete the extra 30 credit hours needed in just two-three weeks of part time work/study for a total of $1,800.

Here's how you do it:  Frederick Community College, a community college in Maryland, will transcribe the FEMA courses for you for a fee.  They charge $60 per credit hour (30*$60 = $1,800).  Each FEMA course is worth one semester hour of credit.  Remember, the extra 30 credits don't have to be in any particulary subject nor do they have to be graduate credits.  Frederick Community College will award "pass" credit for each one you submit to them.  This should be sufficient to meet the 150 hour rule.

Is this something that you are just stating, or do you know that it works for a fact? I need 30 credits to fulfill my 150 credit requirement, and I don't want to shell out all the money then find out that Nasba doesn't accept these credits from FCC. Just from reading the requirements FCC is accredited so "technically" it should work. I would just like some reassurance, and considering you posted the information, I figure you would have an answer.

Thanks,

Need150Credits:

AV8R's point is quite logical. You can confirm the issue
with your NASBA state co-ordinator.

Similar to AV8R's FEMA courses, you can do the same with
CLEP exam credits. Community colleges usually will
transcribe CLEP credits for a lower per credit hour fee.

You will also have to figure the cost of taking the CLEP
exams. You want to make sure that you do not take any
exams similar to the classes you have already taken for
your degree.

I would get the Masters in Accounting if you want to get into audit and masters in tax if you want to get into tax. I know the large public firms do favor MSTs for tax positions. I would assume the opposite applies for audit positions.

I'm not planning on going into
taxation, but would like to get into the big four for
audit.  Unfortunately my gpa is around a 3.0 and I wasn't
granted an interview this past fall.  I'm hoping to boost
my gpa with the masters, and was leaning towards the
Masters in Tax because the MAcc seems more or less like
just an extension of my undergrad.

Perhaps do a MBA with a concentration in Accounting (but
choose tax courses for general exposure),or a
concentration in Finance or Risk Management. If you
already have the accounting credit hours you need, I
think you can get away with a non-MAcc graduate program.

I think the greater concern is landing an internship as
it seems to be the most fool-proof way to guarantee a
full-time offer as opposed to going the direct-hire
route.
