Hi all...

I've received Becker today and see that they have a study plan included in the book that shows that each week they recommend that you do the lecture, HW, flash cards, supplemental questions, and chapter simulations before moving on to the next chapter?

I work with someone who is currently studying and she said that she does the simulations and supplemental questions later instead of after the lecture and homework. However, she's only taken one part and failed. :(

What do you guys do? Anybody follow Becker's recommendation to the letter?

I watch the lecture for each chapter, do the class problems, and study flashcards.  Once I am done with the lectures then I do all the homework problems and simulations mulitple times while I continue to study the flashcards over about a 4-6 week period.  I spend about 2-3 weeks on the lectures also (this is while working full-time and spending about 2 hours a day during the week and 4 hours a day on weekends sometimes more depending on how I feel).  So in all I took about 2.5 months to study for AUDIT using Becker (and supplementing with Wiley questions as well).

I just took my first part yesterday and feel really good about it.  I finished with an hour left.

Good Luck!

Here's what I did for the FAR section as an example:

Monday - Watch Lecture 1: after watching section 1 I
reread it (sometimes skim if REALLY easy) and make the
needed flashcards, the move on to section 2, etc...

Tuesday - Do Homework for Lecture 1: Reread section 1
again (sometimes skim if REALLY easy section), then do
homework for that section continuously clicking
"unanswered/incorrect questions" until I have answered
each one correctly once, the same with section 2, etc...
(also reread flashcards before bed, w/o intent to
memorize, just refresh)

Wednesday - Same as Monday but with lecture 2

Thursday - Same as Tuesday but with lecture 2

Friday - Review all lecture 1 flashcards. Complete
lecture 1's supplemental questions (using the same method
as the homework questions but without the rereading) as
well as the simulations. (also go over chapter 1
flashcards)

Saturday - Same as Friday but with Lecture 2

Sunday - Do the progress test for all chapters that you
have already gone through. Spend any extra time afterward
going back to prior chapters and hitting the topics you
have the hardest time with (for me in FAR I had to go
back to leases and bonds over and over especially sale
leasebacks. For some reason I just couldnt get those
topics to stick for me.) Finally, pick out some harder
flashcards that you feel you MUST memorize and work on
those for a bit before bed.

As a side note, and this may not apply to others, but I
find I memorize the best before bed. Maybe I
subconsciously dream about those stupid flashcards I have
no idea, but they stick better for me.

I completely agree with you. When I first opened my Becker book and saw their study plan, I thought that was A LOT of work.

During the "lecture weeks" (all weeks except last 2 for online course), I would make sure that I had everything required done- homework (sometimes supplemental, sometimes not), lecture, quiz and discussion. I never did flashcards or simulated exams. I would do the sims in the last two weeks right before the test.

The last two weeks is where I learn/memorize the most. I go through each chapter and write my own notes, then do every single (supplemental included) MCQ again. I then work sims for each chapter.

Usually, the last day b4 the test I do the final exams. For every single MCQ I got wrong, I would write out the rule/reason for which I got it wrong.

So far, this has worked for me, but I was well aware of how I learn best, so this method may not work for you.

Best of luck

I liked watching a lecture, doing the HW once, including supplementals.  Move on to next subject...go through all of them like that.

Then come back to Ch.1, not watch the lecture again, yet print off the class notes from Becker and skim each chapter and add details to their outline and study that.  Do the hw one more time.  At this point I had printed off all homeworks (don't tell my boss, shhhhhh :-)) and in the 2nd go-round of mcq's, set aside any questions you got wrong, but most importantly write down on the piece of paper WHY you got it wrong.  This more than helped me remember details come exam time.

Then I had a pile of all mcq's from all chapters that I got wrong on the second time around and all I did was study these and my outlines for the 2 to 3 days prior to the exam.  This helped weed out questions that were easy that you don't need to waste time on.

Personally, I never did a simulated exam or simulations - looked at one to get a feel for the outline but that was it.  Quite honestly, I'm not all that sure they would have helped.
