Hi All,

I passed my last part back in July. I sent my application last week and my manager send his part today. I called board and they informed me that they go through application once a month.

I am assuming that by now board should have grades and other information.

Do you think I will get my licenase before January 2010? I would like to do some taxes this year if my license comes on time.

Thanks in advnace.

You don't need your license to do taxes :)

But I would call / email the board for a status update.  I would think there's been some change since July.

What kind of change? I want to do taxes for other people. I thought you have to put your license number?

Nope, you don't need a license to do taxes.  And you don't have to put your license number anywhere.

You do have to put your SSN or PTIN (if you have one) and EIN (if you're self employed and have one) at the bottom of the returns you prepare and sign as preparer.  If you don't already have a PTIN, I would recommend getting one ASAP so you won't have to put your SSN on all the returns you prepare.

To get a PTIN, you either need to sign up for e-services

or send in the paper form

Thank you so much KJ. Appreciate your help.

Question for everyone
I am confused on the content of the IRS website. I will be able efile returns for all my customers for free???????. If not, is there a software I can purchase, that let me prepare and efile taxes for reasonable prize.
