What's the first & second wave ? How does it impacts the exam & results ?

When you take the exam, you receive your scores in either the first or second wave of score releases. This is fairly random and usually doesn't mean anything in terms of how you did on the exam. Most 2nd wave scores are released before the beginning of the subsequent testing window as they want you to be able to retake a failed section as soon as possible.

Hope that helps!

and...per the AICPA, if you receive a simulation that has not been previously tested, you automatically fall into the 2nd wave, even if you test at the beginning of the testing window.

masoomasaif, my understanding is the 1st & 2nd wave refer to the 1st month of a testing window up until the 7th of the following month (as nostudyrequired mentioned).  2nd wave would refer to the remainder of the testing window.  I'm still looking for where this is published at the cpa-exam.org site.

Does anyone know what the cutoff for score reporting is for the July/August window we're currently in? Having sat many times (for different parts), I've seen almost every variation of score reporting timing - - - but I'm still not certain where the line is drawn for that "possible" earlier score release?

Generally, the last day to be Wave 1 eligible is the 7th day of the 2nd month of a quarter.  Generally.  No one ever made any promises, and it's not written on stone tablets anywhere.

Thanks! Believe me, I have no "expectations" for it to be written in stone. I sat at the very first day of the testing window after New Years' this year, and got reported almost 90 days later - - - but I had once gotten a "Wave 1" scoring - - - so I just want to have some idea if it's even possible since I have a part I'm taking TOMMOROW! Thanks again...

The window of flexibility (if there even is one) would likely be only one or two days to either side.  Yes, I think you're pretty safe considering yourself Wave 1 eligible with an Aug 3 testing date. Good luck.

the above discussion is from the Jul/Aug 2009 window...

As you can see, there are no guarantees, your best bet for a Wave 1 score is not wait until the very last day.

Good luck!

So... if a person takes his/her exam on February 5... is that considered to be the very last day and he/she should try to take the exam prior to Friday? Thanks for the clarification!

Nothing is written in stone re: the Wave 1 / Wave 2 cutoff, but yes, I think the absolute last day would be Feb 5.
