Is the MBA overated?

I know that the top 25 MBA are not, but what about anything below them? Even some in the top 25 are overated, I think.  I know the CPA is valuable to accoutants, but is the MBA really need?  I would think that the CPA and an undergrad is all you really need.  Masters is just a little something extra if you want to become a manager? Say you pass the CPA, do you really need a Macc or MBA, etc?  Could be a waste of money.  Don't think it will help your career much if your already a CPA and have work experience, might help people out that are trying to start out though.

Any MBA under Top 25 (maybe Top 30 but that's stretching a bit) is a waste of money except under one specific circumstance: 1) your employer is paying for it, and 2) you're getting promoted once you get the degree.

A top MBA program would be a waste for a CPA who plans to stay in public accounting for the length of his career. If he wanted to branch out into corporate, however, he might find the MBA more useful as a stepping stone into an executive position. A CPA would be better off getting a Macc, Master's in Tax, or a Master's in Auditing, etc.

It's  not overrated for people who want to make a change into business from another field or even people who want to switch to another field in business. An ex auditor for instance will have a very hard time getting a job in financial analysis, corporate development etc eventhough those jobs are related, because they are accountants and restricted to "accounting jobs"

from a practical standpoint, all degrees are overrated. the only commodity in academic education is the name behind the degree or the reputation of the institution from which you graduated. Almost all your skills in a particular trade will be learned from the first to tenth grade (basic math and english) and on the job training.

Well, most jobs require at least a Bachelor's, so you almost have to have one of those.  I'm just saying some masters degrees, especially MBA is overrated.  What do you learn in an MBA program you don't learn in your undergrad if you were a finance/accounting major?
