You... didn't think going for the MBA was about EDUCATION, did you? I'd peg it at 60% networking, 39% degree/school name, and 1% of actually learning anything you didn't cover in undergrad.

This particular school represented itself as a pioneer in applied business research.  Companies in the Twin Cities alledgedly provided them with project work that one would work on in various capacities.  For instance, a marketing class now, I was told we'd be doing a real project with a real budget for a real company.  Due to p!ss poor excuses by professors, deans and faculty, it's hypothetical now.

I expected to learn a bit.  But I'm aghast at how shallow the learning is.

I network constantly.  Just tonight I shook hands and spoke with David Brooks from the NYT and WSJ.  I am pushing more than 300 good contacts on linkedin.  I have close to 200 crappy contacts (classmates, etc.).

Networking is not a problem for me.  Now if only I had a job.

No one goes to the MBA to learn. It is about recruiting, networking and getting into a field you had no chance to go in before. The people I spoke to who went to get an MBA(top10) all liked it for the social aspect as well as professional development. Your goal for an MBA is not to learn, it is a filtering device for recruiters at top companies, they know you are a good corporate type if you put all your effort in to an MBA program, similar to how big 4 is a filter used by industry to net out the hard workers etc, not for what they really know. It's amazing how people are impressed by an MBA from a decent school, for that reason alone, it is worth to have just so you don't get pushed aside by other MBAs with no real knowledge.

I've learned A LOT since starting this program.  Though not too much about business.  More about management, teamwork, leadership, and so forth.  I feel much more versed regarding handling and managing a team.

While those soft skills are hard to identify or 'sell', I do feel it a worthwhile attribute to the program.

Though the learning may be slim, the work load is high!  Be prepared for a ton of group work where you listen to a ton of dumb ideas.  Pick your battles.

And you still say in a separate post that it is overrated? I don't get your logic, but to each their own.
