I agree Tropical82... I just took BEC two weeks ago for the 6th time! I am just disgusted over this exam and can't believe the way the material is split up and what a hodge podge of information with no flow what-so-ever. I just hope I pass this time around so I can move on from this part that has been haunting me for two years...

I think that what makes BEC difficult is the fact that despite the fact that its lighter on content and all MC (in the past, but now there's a few WC), and not time pressured the same proportion of people still passed compared to the monsters FAR and REG. Therefore, you needed to really nail to MC to pass, and every mistake that you made was amplified. In sections like FAR and REG you had some breathing room for little mistakes, because just knowing the material was seen to be an accomplishment.
But a few way to make BEC "flow" more, is to think of FAR like your working on a wholesaler or retailer client, and think of BEC like you're working on a manufacturing client. That's the way my CPA review instructor explained it. Also, BEC is less about compliance (like to GAAP or the IRS), and more about helping make decisions to help the firm reach its short-term and long-term goals.

I highly suggest you practice the essays. The topics were fairly
common & will have the ability to push you over the top. I took the test
on 1/15 and the MC was all over the place.
But had I known, I could have nailed the essays. Make sure you give
yourself enough time. I had less than 30 minutes to write 3 essays.

Hi all,
I took BEC on Jan 24 and I agree with jazzchic, MC was all over the place and WCs were fairly common and easy for me to answer.
I used CPAExcel supplemented by Gleim Downloadable Test Prep Software and studied for approx. 8 weeks.
Going into the exam I felt good, but not so good when I left the exam. I had several curveballs that Gleim and CPAExcel barely covered. Hopefully the curveballs I saw were the "test questions" for future use.
Advice for those getting ready to take BEC: Don't focus on and make yourself crazy over any one topic while practicing for the WC. The chances of you getting a WC topic that you have practiced writing for is very slim unless you use your spare time to write essays on every topic covered in BEC. Instead practice writing for the practice WC's in your review material and carefully study the WC grading criteria. You will do fine on WC if you are familiar with the grading criteria, you have practiced, and you are confident. Also, if you are practicing MC over and over and you are memorizing the answers rather than learning the concepts you will not pass.
I am not sure what to expect for a score on BEC. I thought I failed AUD in November 2010 and I scored an 87! So I am going to begin studying for FAR and REG and hope for the best, but expect the worst haha.
Good luck!
