Would you guys know whether I need a PTIN if I only prepare taxes for my friends and family for no charge? Any advise is greatly appreciated. |

If you do it at no charge, you are not considered a "preparer" according to the IRS. You will not need a PTIN, as you could have your friends and family sign it as self prepared. If you plan on becoming a professional preparer get you PTIN.
