So I'm sure most of you know that
recruiting for Big 4 and other public accounting firms
should be happening in the coming month. If I can, I
would be more than happy to answer any questions. Feel
free to ask me about advice, recruiting, interviews, the
job, pros/cons, exit opportunities, whatever else you
feel like asking. I'll be as candid and thorough as
possible. Just FYI, I do work in a Big 4 in the audit
practice and I've interned with them as well. I remember
being pretty lost without many resources because I got
into business late. It was pretty nerve wrecking going
through the process without much help or information. Can
we please keep this to recruiting for public accounting
only. I can try to answer questions regarding other
divisions outside of audit, but my knowledge isn't nearly
as extensive.

Big 4 won't hire you for entry level audit positions because you're too experienced at this point. They only hire for entry level positions from undergrads or Masters in Accounting. You can try targeting smaller regional firms who have less formalized recruiting policies. Also, they only for experienced positions (requires previous audit experience) during this time of the year. They conduct interviews for entry level positions at this time, but it's for internships and sometimes FT positions that start the following summer/fall.

What kind of banking experience did you have? If you were either in commercial banking or investment banking, you could try applying for Big 4's Corporate Finance (i.e. middle market investment banking) positions. By the way, why are you looking into Audit if you did a MBA in Finance and have banking (I assume more than just being a bank teller since you have your MBA) experience?

Hi db729,

I have 2 years previous audit experience outside of the US doing audits
under IFRS and have no Gaap experience. I am currently doing my
Macc but have a low Gpa from undergrad. How would the big 4 look
at me. I would prefer coming in as an experience hire and not new hire
but not sure if I will during the recruiting process.

Would passing CPA sections before applying help?

Hi,

I was in corporate banking, and due to several layoffs.  I’ve decided to switch to accounting.  I have the following questions:

1)      Should I get into Public or Private Accounting?  Is it too late for Public Accounting since I am now 32 years old.

2)      In what months are the Public Accounting firms (big 4 ) will post hiring for their entry-level position?

3)      I would like exposure to a variety such as Auditing, financial statement preparations, tax, so I can see which I would like best, how can I do this?

4)      Is it tough to get into Public Accounting from Private Accounting and vice versa?

5)      How do I get my foot into any public accounting firm of any size with out accounting experience?

6)      How should I present my past experience with the Bank on my resume to obtain a Public Accounting position?  What should I say when they asked so why did you leave the Corporate Banking industry?

Thank you

Hi,

I am a recent graduate with bachelor degree in
Accounting& Finance, my GPA is 3.2 and I know that figure
is relatively low compare to Big4 min. requirement. I am
currently studying for my CPA exam and looking to land a
position at big 4 (that will be the ideal situation). I
have 3 internships while I was in college, but none of it
was with public accounting firm. 2 of them are
bookkeeping position and 1 is an analysis position. I am
now 24, do I still have a chance landing a position at
Big4? If I do, what should I do to get an interview with
Big4? If I don't, what are the alternative solutions?
